Benfleet was always going to be a difficult game for us, still bearing grudges from us winning the league at their place last season on the final day. And that's exactly what it was, infact it was a lesson to anyone thinking they could just turn up to this game to make up the numbers. Benfleet wanted this from the 1st minute and were deserved of their victory, although 4-1 was slightly flattering. We started the game ok, taking into consideration there were 7 changes to the team from the week before, however after 20 minutes, we were 1-0 down. The goal seemed to do us good and resulted in us having some good possession. On the 32nd minute, a great passing move saw debutant Tim Durden find the back of the net, a really well worked goal. However 5 minutes from 1/2 time they were back in the lead, The referee failed to notice a blatant foul on Phil Reynolds, Benfleet proceeded to play and tucked away an easy goal. In the 2nd half we continued to sit back and absorb the pressure and two goals in 5 minutes from Benfleet killed the game. We are away to White Ensign reserves in the cup next week, we will need to be at our best for this one.
